Performance indicator 1 on aggregate expenditure outturn, which measures the extent to which aggregate budget expenditure outturn, reflects the amount originally approved, is part of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 on ‘Peace, justice, and strong institutions’.

SDG 16 recognizes the importance of strengthening government institutions that promote efficient, effective, and accountable public spending in supporting sustainable development.

Over the past 10 years nearly two-thirds of countries were within 10 percentage points of their original budgets, and around half of those were within 5 percentage points. However, more than a tenth of countries deviated by more than 15 percentage points.
